Web App Whizz

We are looking for a Ruby on Rails whizz to further develop our web app ScholarlyMinds.com (aggregator for academically relevant content which recently received endorsement from the European Union). The site exist as a prototype and is live. As ScholalryMinds is all about content, we recently developed a crawler prototype to systematically populate our database, making it a central data resource fron anyone in academia.
What the job entitles:
- * Develop features for the ScholarlyMinds.com web application, turning high level descriptions into things users will love
- * Deliver well-implemented, functional user interfaces
- * Lead back-end development to implement interactive and AJAX-based functionality
- * Increase complexity of content auto-tagging feature to something that is just one step away from saying "hello"
- * Further develop crawler fleet (we have a database of about 50+ target sites, totalling 1M+ data)
- * Introduce moderator features for user-provided content
- * Spice up the web interface
- * Diagnose client-side errors, performance bottlenecks and incompatibilities and implement fixes and optimizations
- * Implement own ideas/modify existing concepts, looks and feels where deemed appropriate

What we are looking for:
- * Agile people that thrive in a startup environment - highly motivated self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision
- * People with a track record of willingness to learn and improve, a 'can do' attitude and don't give up at challenging tasks
- * Experience with PHP and/or server-side templating languages (Smarty, etc)
- * You don't have to be an expert in designing web apps, as long as you can convince us that you can pick it up fast (previous experience is a bonus though)
- * Working knowledge of HTML, CSS and cross-browser support
- * Working knowledge of Ruby on Rails/LAMP, MySQL/PostgreSQL
- * Working knowledge in object-oriented Javascript and frameworks (jQuery, Prototype, etc)
- * Skilled in debugging and problem solving using relevant tools (Firebug, etc)
- * Experienced in the use of appropriate development tools including source code management
- * Great attention to detail!
- * Good technical communication skills
